30th March - Easter Decorations

Well another week as passed! Which means another installment of the youth group..... this coming week in the youth group we will be creating arty, crafty easter decorations to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the refreshment area! So like before, members are encouraged to bring as many equipments and/or materials as possible to aid in the smooth running of the night and to make 'a good night' turn into 'a great night.' So I hope all members can try to get organized as soon as possible! And one more thing, don't forget to label your equipment, in case it gets miss placed, we can then return it to it's rightful owner.

On another note, great job to those who contributed to making 'Welcoming Night 07' a successful night, whether it is merely inviting a friend or doing the powerpoint, each one of you deserve a pat on the back ^^, Thank God for what he has done! And may be continue to bless the youth in various ways.

Hope you have a pleasant week!

God Bless & Au Revoir

23rd March 07 - Welcoming Night!

As you well have been aware, the much anticipated welcoming night is fast approaching, this Friday as a matter of fact. So if you still haven't asked a friend to come this Friday, hurry because you got to give them prior notice so they can arrange their schedule, just courtesy really. (well, assuming everyone has some kind of schedule) The night will contain main exciting programs from the joyful praises that we will sing, to the yummy, tummy rumbling food that will be provided!
Now, it brings me to my next point.

Food: Regular youth members, remember what Chris has requested, and try to bring a dish of food that doesn't get too messy. Committee members you know what you have to do. Please try to remember! Or else a lack of food will not be a good way to finish the night :/

So... hope everyone can do their part, whether you are a member or in the committee, it will all add up and will definitely influence the flow/smooth running of the night.

Hope you all have a fruitful week!
Until then, Au Revoir & God Bless

Finally, Welcoming Night is fast approaching. It's next week (23 March), and will be quite a big event! Joe Rossi from Youth Alive will be speaking, so please invite your friends along! Just to get you all starting to think about it.

9 March: Elections

This Friday night is Election Night.

"What is election night?" you might wonder. Well, the EMYF is run by a committee (in the Methodist tradition) which is responsible for running the youth group on a weekly basis. They plan and organise programs, take care of the finances, and most importantly, they look after every one of you. After all, the youth doesn't run itself, does it?

Each year elections are held to determine who these very privileged people are. The criteria we have are:
  • Must be 16 years of age this year
  • Must be a regular member (ie. for more than three months)
  • Must be a member of the Kingsway Methodist Church (or willing to be one this year). With this you must also be baptised

These criteria are in place to ensure the leaders of the youth group are sincere, willing and capable to guide each person into a deeper and more meaningful relationship with God, and also with each other. Of course, you must also have a heart to serve also!

If you are eligible, your name should be up on the list of candidates which Ivan will have drawn up and will be the form for Friday night. If you are there but don't wish to be - due to any reason - you'll have the opportunity to say why this Friday.

Following a short talk by Rev Elijah Chew, each person present at youth this Friday will have the opportunity to vote for whom they think would be a capable committee member. This will be cast as a ballot, and the votes will be counted straight after. While the votes are being counted, the Melbourne EMYF's short film will be shown. It's entitled "Destination" and was the offical short film of the 12th Youth Convention held in Melbourne at the end of last year. It is a great movie and is a different take to what you might expect from a traditional Christian film...

After the film, the results will be announced. The new committee will then meet and decide on who takes on which role. We trust that God will use every one of you, and all the votes, to end up with a great commitee for 2007-2008; that He will guide our hands and our thoughts.

Date: 9/3/07
Time: 7:30pm
Place: Sanctuary
